Volunteering at this community event is separate from campaign volunteering, and no one has to support a candidate to help out or to receive anything at the event. If you would also like to help with the campaign, that is a separate sign-up on Get Involved.
Help fill the backpacks
Every backpack and every notebook handed out on October 31 comes from a neighbor, a business or a church that decided to help. Here are the two ways to be one of them.
Donate backpacks or school supplies
Backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, folders, glue sticks, headphones — new items in any quantity. Tell us what you can bring and we will confirm the drop-off time and place at 1622 N. Perry, Pontiac, MI 48340. Leftover supplies go to Pontiac students, never to a campaign.
Money helps us buy the backpacks families still need. A monetary gift goes to the Committee to Elect Maicol Rivera Torres, which pays for the supplies — so it is a political contribution, reportable under Michigan campaign finance law, limited to $1,000 per person per election, and not tax-deductible. Corporate funds cannot be accepted.
Cash App: $electmaicolrivera — put BACKPACKS in the note so we can track it, and use your full name.
Attendance, backpacks, school supplies and every giveaway at this event are free and open to all. No one is ever required to support, vote for, donate to or volunteer for a political candidate to attend or to receive anything at this event. Donating supplies is a community contribution and is kept separate from campaign contribution records. Details for partners are on the event page.
Help us reach every Pontiac family
Share Backpacks & Boos with your neighbors, your group chat and your school families. Every share means more children go home with a backpack.
Backpacks & Boos is a free community event. Attendance, backpacks, school supplies and every giveaway are open to everyone and are never conditioned on supporting, voting for, donating to or volunteering for a political candidate.
